North Koreans In Iran?

North Korean Woman searching for food in the weeds.
North Korean's in Iran...

"President George W. Bush was widely—and unfairly—castigated for referring to Iran, Iraq, and North Korea as ‘The Axis of Evil.’ Academics denied that such diverse countries could cooperate, while diplomats condemned Bush for saying such mean things about Ayatollah Ali Khamenei or Dear Leader Kim Jong-il. In hindsight, of course, Bush was right. The only legitimate criticism of the Axis of Evil was that he defined it too narrowly: Certainly, there might have been room for Venezuelan despot Hugo Chavez and Sudan’s murderous dictator Omar Al-Bashir, among others.

Blogger Challah Hu Akbar, whom I do not know personally but whose blog I always find interesting, has done some important analysis of Iranian media pictures and asks just what North Korean military officers are doing in Iran?"

Gulags, Famine & Poverty - North Korean Style

North Korean Gulag...or Going into the Mountains.

North Korean Gulag

"Even prison guards attempt to escape the country. Based on their testimonies and those of former inmates, Mr Hawk estimates that there are 150,000-200,000 political prisoners, penned into a string of camps that can be pinpointed on Google Earth (being “sent up to the mountains” is a euphemism among ordinary folk for those who disappear). Many prisoners are stunted and deformed from back-breaking work, 12 hours a day, seven days a week, with so little food that they eat rats and snakes, and pick through cow dung for grains of corn. Clothing is threadbare."

North Korea, still crazy as ever

Namdaemun, 1964. This is a striking image when compared with the high rise buildings that surround the South Gate now. It's Korea's number one national treasure, and it has undergone a facelift over the past few years.
